Idea for Final Project

So we came up with an idea for our final project that we liked, even though it isn't really comedic we still thought it was alright. Our idea is basically going to be a horror and adventure-themed kind of movie, and the intro is going to introduce the elements that drive the plot.      So the way we plan to do this is that we'll start off with some people getting into a car. They'll turn the radio on and hear something about disappearances nearby. One of them will ironically make a statement along the lines of "That's nonsense" or "Those stories are overblown" and the radio will be turned off. The people in the car will them proceed to converse with each other.      After this we're gonna focus on the driver. As the car goes underneath an underpass and the lighting reaches extremely low levels, we're gonna have the driver say something, expecting a response. He gets no response and looks in the mirror and doesn't see any of his buddi...

Movie Opener Brainstorming & Research

Of the nine example videos that we were given to watch, each utilized many different techniques and strategies in order to make their films more appealing that our group will definitely be able to learn from and possibly use ourselves. Here are some of the observations I made while reviewing the examples. Only seven videos are reviewed below since two of them (Link #2, Link #5) were unavailable for public viewing. Rise      This opening was extremely fast-paced using lots of quick camera movements, on top of a creative camera positioning and transition used at 0:50 of the video. That positioning involved placing a camera in the front of a rolling soccer ball that had just been kicked, then fading to white. Something else that the team who created the film did very well was the musical score, which they made so that it actually lined up with the various cuts, and even inside the video, the foot movements. This made it seem very synchronized and natural...

Why I chose my group members

Anyway to continue off the last post, I won't be working alone of course, this is going to be a group project, which is great because we can help each other and build off each other's ideas to make the best final product that we can. Anyway in my group there's me, Arturo, and Alejandro. Arturo I definitely wanted in my group because he has a true passion for videomaking, and he would have no shortage of ideas and ways to improve whatever our final product is. And Alejandro is very skilled in photography, videography, and choreography. When framing a scene he knows where to put everything instinctually and always has ideas. Both of them are very creative, Alejandro actually having come up with the concept for our Sound Story project a few months ago. I look forward to working with both of them in the months to come.

Film Project Genre Selection

Our group decided to make our main genre "Comedy" after some deliberation between two of its members. This is subject to review and may be changed in the future, but we at least hope to have some comedic elements in our film. Our reasoning is that everyone likes to laugh.

Film Opening Research #2 - Star Wars

The first "Star Wars" film (retroactively titled "Star Wars: Episode IV  —  A New Hope") was the beginning of a massively popular movie franchise whose legacy lives on today all throughout the United States. It was a groundbreaking film for its time due to its generous usage of Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI), and it sparked a large resurgence of Science Fiction movies of all kinds in Hollywood.     The beginning credits are very light, consisting only of the film studio, title, and producer. The main image emphasized is that of a starry background, showing that this film largely takes place in space and the characters will use technology barely imaginable to current humans. Even the font style contributes to the effect. Starry sky is seen in the background     Its introduction is very interesting because as opposed to most other films, it uses a large rolling block of text to provide exposition to the viewers, rather than the usual method of...

Film Opening Research #1 - Raiders of the Lost Ark

" Raiders of the Lost Ark", starring Harrison Ford, is often considered one of the best films of all time, and this is in no small part due to its spectacular opening scene, which brings the viewer only a taste of the theme and acting style they will see throughout the rest of the movie.     The opening scene begins with a group of explorers led by Indiana Jones walking through the jungle as the opening credits display themselves. The opening credits consist of stating the film studio, the producers and director, some of the major actors, and many of the other studio workers who played their part in making the movie possible.     Some of the main images prioritized in the opening scene are those of exploration, betrayal, and bravery, which are also three of the movie's main themes:     The theme of exploration is the basis for the movie, especially with Indiana Jones, the main character, exploring for a living. The film throws us right into th...
