Why I'm here

Hey there everyone, my name's Abdullah. I'm a sophomore who goes to Everglades High School, and some of my hobbies include basketball, cartography, tracking weather, coding, and a bunch of other stuff too. In Middle School I went Franklin Academy Pembroke Pines (K-8). I still feel like a freshman honestly because last year I was going online and this is really my first time entering the building.

I didn't actually choose to be in this class (or even list it on my course selection sheet). The reason I'm taking this class is because my schedule that I was given at the beginning of the year was messed up, and listed a class that I had already taken the previous year online. Earlier last week when an option to switch my schedule came out I went on and requested to be moved out of the redundant course.

As a result, I now have been put in this class, named "Media Studies". I honestly didn't know what to expect based on the name, and was thinking that the course would be somewhere along the line of being some kind of journalism class. Now though that it's been a few days, it really seems like its some kind of film class, which I suppose is alright. Maybe I'll find that I'm passionate in this or something... Also the blog we get is pretty nifty too. I had no idea it was this easy to create a blog on Blogspot!

Anyway as for the whole class, I'm not entirely sure how it's going to go, but it looks like I'll be taking it

Videos

A few days back, we were made to create five different shots for our class with a partner, each using a different camera angle. Here is my work:      Video #1 - Introductory Scene - This shot shows the campus before stopping and zooming in on a tree, which the audience will ideally view as being the most integral part of the story. It's introductory because it shows the setting of the rest of the movie and introduces key items. This shot was created by simply rotating the camera and then using the zoom function on it, zoning in on the tree. Our goal of making an introductory scene was probably achieved.      Video #2 - High Shot - This shot displays Arturo (my partner) from a high vantage point below the viewer. In the video, he picks up a stick and slowly points it upward, towards the camera. The way this was recorded was by me standing on a bench and rotating the camera angle down at Arturo, then slowly tilting it upward during the course of the filming i...

Sound Story

Alejandro, Arturo, and I have recently been working on a project for our film class that I'll talk about in the post below. The way this worked was that we were supposed to try to mix audio and create a file between one and two minutes long that told a story using a maximum of seven words of dialogue and in a manner so that the listener would still be able to understand what was going on. We also would have to record ourselves making four of the sound effects (not including dialogue) that we'd use during our file (so this would be attempting our own Foley Stages). This meant we couldn't take all of our sounds off the internet and leave it at that. I didn't have any ideas at first, so I was relieved when Alejandro told me that he already had an idea.       We discussed his idea and streamlined it, and came up with the following idea: we'd try to simulate a mafia hit (or at least attempt to) that would begin with two members talking to each other in...

Idea for Final Project

So we came up with an idea for our final project that we liked, even though it isn't really comedic we still thought it was alright. Our idea is basically going to be a horror and adventure-themed kind of movie, and the intro is going to introduce the elements that drive the plot.      So the way we plan to do this is that we'll start off with some people getting into a car. They'll turn the radio on and hear something about disappearances nearby. One of them will ironically make a statement along the lines of "That's nonsense" or "Those stories are overblown" and the radio will be turned off. The people in the car will them proceed to converse with each other.      After this we're gonna focus on the driver. As the car goes underneath an underpass and the lighting reaches extremely low levels, we're gonna have the driver say something, expecting a response. He gets no response and looks in the mirror and doesn't see any of his buddi...
